KUCHING, June 3: Kuching has topped Sarawak’s Covid-19 daily toll for six consecutive days now with reports of three-digit figures every single day.
According to the reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Kuching alone registered 136 new cases from the total of 594 cases throughout Sarawak in 24 hours.
Kuching recorded 106 cases yesterday (June 2), 218 on June 1, 219 on May 31, 117 on May 30 and 159 cases on May 29.
For today’s figure, SDMC said Kuching, Miri, Sarikei and Bintulu recorded 362 cases or 60.94 per cent of the total number of cases for the day.
While Miri reported 99 new cases, Sarikei 66 and Bintulu 61, other districts with new infections included Sri Aman (48), Sibu (38), Dalat (32), Subis (20), Tatau (14), Kapit (13), Samarahan (13), Saratok (10), Serian (8), Kabong (7), Selangau (6), Bau (5), Pakan (4), Mukah (3), Julau (2), Limbang (2), Pusa (1), Kanowit (1), Bukit Mabong (1), Beluru (1), Betong (1), Lawas (1) and Marudi (1).
With that, the committee said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 49,214.
Out of the 594 patients today, 367 of them were detected following close contact screenings where 16 of them were symptomatic.
Another 102 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where one showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
There were 91 cases that were other screenings from health facilities, 31 cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities and another three Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, SDMC also reported six new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus increasing the death toll to 311.
The six fatalities today were between 44 to 68 years old with two each from Sibu and Sarikei, and one each from Miri and Kapit. All six of them had medical histories of comorbidities.
With 610 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 8,427 active cases who are receiving treatment in the hospitals across Sarawak.
On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 30 red, three orange, six yellow zones and one green zone. — DayakDaily
