KUCHING, Jan 29: The Kuching Festival may resume this year as long as the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak continues to be under control.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the committee in charge would meet soon to discuss the festival.

ā€œSo if we have bazaars for Chinese New Year (CNY) and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, it is most likely that the Kuching Festival will resume this year provided that there is no outstanding situation,ā€ he said during his weekly Facebook live talk session titled ā€˜ShallWEETalk?ā€™ today.

He said since he assumed office, he has yet to organise the Kuching Festival, which he interpreted as equivalent to a tourist coming to Kuching without eating Sarawak laksa and kolo mee.

ā€œAs long as the Covid-19 pandemic allows for the organisation of the Kuching Festival, I will be delighted, especially now that Kuching is the city of gastronomy,ā€ he added.

He also mentioned that there would be a few things coming up for Kuching city in the next two months, disclosing that a few blueprints are on their way to be proposed to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

ā€œI expect the ā€˜construction projectā€™ to start this year if possible, and I want it to be done in two or three years.” ā€” DayakDaily
