KUCHING, Dec 1: The retail price of bottled cooking oil will remain unchanged in December 2022 as it was in September 2022.
In announcing this, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) in a statement today said the retail price for bottled cooking oil will be RM6.90 for 1 kilogram, RM13.30 (2kg), RM19.60 (3kg), and RM30.90 (5kg).
According to KPDNHEP Enforcement Division director Azman Adam, the price-setting is the result of cooperation from the cooking oil industry which has agreed to keep the maximum price although the average price of crude cooking oil (CPO) throughout the month of November recorded an increase compared to the previous month (October).
He warned that action will be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (AKHAP 2011) against any party that sells cooking oil above the maximum price that has been set.
“Individuals can be fined by the court up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for not more than three years or both and the company can be fined up to RM500,000,” he added.
Azman also urges consumers to continue to be prudent in purchasing, prioritising what is necessary and planning each purchase. He also encouraged consumers to be the eyes and ears of the government by channeling information related to non-compliance with the law regarding the maximum retail price of pure palm cooking oil in the market to the ministry’s various official complaint channels.
