Foreign national fined RM10,000 for illegally possessing 68kg of cooking oil

KUCHING, Feb 4: A foreign national was fined RM10,000 or sentenced to six months in prison by the Kuching Sessions Court yesterday (Feb 3) for possessing 68kg of packaged cooking oil without a license.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin revealed that the controlled goods were found during an inspection by its strategic partner in an unnamed area leading to the border control post (PKS) in Sarawak.

The charges were presented before judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.

The defendant paid the fine and was released, while the seized goods were forfeited for disposal.
