KUCHING, April 7: Kota Sentosa residents can assist in preventing property vandalism by reporting and sending information and photos of offenders caught in the act to the local council.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) chief Wilfred Yap made this call after receiving a request from the business community of 7th Mile Bazaar for assistance to get Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to remove unsightly graffiti on the stage of Kota Sentosa Town Square.

“The graffiti vandalism (sic) by irresponsible individuals had caused the affected Kota Sentosa Town Square to feel and appear run down.

“Following the request, we have discussed the matter with Kapitan Lee Tho Fung, who is the chairman of JKKK (Village Development and Security Committee) Kota Sentosa Batu Tujuh to organise a ‘gotong-royong’ to repaint the affected area carried out under Projek Rakyat,” he said in media release today.

The repainting works were recently carried out by volunteers from SUPP Batu Tujuh sub-branch.

Yap, who is also a resident councillor for Kota Sentosa, thus reminded the public that the act of marking or defacing premises or other property without permission is vandalism.

“It signifies urban decay and is detrimental to property values in an area.

“The community of Kota Sentosa is encouraged to play their role by assisting MPP through reporting or lodging a complaint to MPP if they see anyone in the act of graffiti vandalism (sic).

“A photo of the offender of graffiti vandalism taken from a hand phone will be very effective in identifying the offender,” he said.

Yap also expressed hope that local communities will always stop to think about what impact their actions will have on others.

“Being responsible and considerate is the key to making sure our actions will not cause a nuisance or problem to others.

“The key is not to do things which you do not expect others to do. This will go a long way towards reducing problems and also allow the enforcement staff of MPP to concentrate on more serious breaches of by-laws and regulations,” he added.

Meanwhile, SUPP PCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but do not know how to deal with it. Anyone requiring assistance may call SUPP PCB at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go directly to the SUPP Head Office here to request for assistance. ā€” DayakDaily
