KUCHING, Oct 27: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin treated senior citizens to a special programme which offered free health and welfare services at Kuching Sentral Complex yesterday (Oct 26).

Organised by Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pengguna Sarawak (Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association) in collaboration with Kota Sentosa Service Centre, the ‘Happy and Health Sarawak Community’ event allowed the elderly to apply for new Senior Citizen Health Benefits (SCHB) programme, which provides cashless outpatient treatment at designated clinics with coverage of up to RM500 per annum.

This special initiative, launched by the Sarawak government, is designed to assist senior citizens with their medical expenses and features participating clinics such as KPJ, Timberland, and Normah Hospital.

According to a press release, the participants at the event were also able to apply for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC).

The event also featured a comprehensive range of free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, hearing assessments, and body mass index (BMI) evaluations, all conducted by Alpro Clinic.

To ensure holistic care, OJO Eyewear provided complimentary eye screenings throughout the day.

“Dr Velentine Anderson from Alpro Clinic delivered a series of enlightening health talks addressing crucial topics such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes, and dengue.

“Furthermore, Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) contributed by introducing the ‘Skim Perkerjaan Sendiri (SLAPS)’ and other valuable services aimed at raising awareness of workplace health and social security benefits, significantly enhancing the support available to the community,” it said.

During the opening ceremony, Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association president Melson Chai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Yap for the latter’s unwavering support of the event and significant efforts in securing the grant that made it possible. — DayakDaily
