KUCHING, Dec 6: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has so far channeled a total of RM630,000 in Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funding to upgrade of Bumiputera village halls in his constituency.

According to a press release, other village halls that have completed upgrades are Kampung Lubok Buan (RM100,000), Kampung Stutong Iban (RM80,000), and Kampung Sungai Tapang (RM100,000). Meanwhile, Kampung Stampin Iban Baru (RM100,000) and Kampung Stutong Melayu (RM150,000) are in the process of being upgraded.

Yap was recently with implementing agency Kuching South City Council (MBKS) at Kampung Stampin Iban for a final inspection following the completion of repairs and upgrading work on the village hall by East Construction Enterprise for RM100,000 under his RTP funding for N12 Kota Sentosa.

The contract sum of RM100,000 is for the construction of new fencing, a brick wall for the gate, painting work, and the installation of security grills.

“The villagers of Kampung Stampin Iban had earlier requested YB Wilfred Yap for assistance as the condition of the balai raya was not satisfactory to serve the needs of the residents.

“The good condition of village halls are important as they are used as community centres for fostering unity amongst the residents of the village through meaningful religious and cultural activities and programmes held in the hall,” read the press release.

Based on the press release, Yap expressed gratitude to the MBKS officers and the contractor for successfully completing the RTP village hall repair project on schedule.

“YB Wilfred Yap also reminded the residents of Kampung Stampin Iban to continue to support the current GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) Sarawak government under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to ensure that Sarawak remains on track to accomplish the objectives of economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and sustainability driven by data and innovation put in place under Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Sarawakians must continue to solidly support the current GPS government to ensure political stability which is crucial for economic expansion, social progress, and overall improvement in the quality of life.

“This is because GPS ‘walks the talk’ and has positioned Sarawak as an attractive destination for foreign investments and has implemented vital plans and strategies using the latest green and digital technologies for sustainable overall holistic economic development where every ‘anak Sarawak’ will be able to enjoy the benefits.”

Additionally, Yap also expressed his commitment to securing more State development funding for improving neglected infrastructure such as drains and roads to uplift the standard of living in N12 Kota Sentosa. — DayakDaily
