KOTA SAMARAHAN, April 12: Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian says Kota Samarahan has the potential to be Sarawak’s central ‘health metropolis’ due to its diverse range of facilities that not only improve healthcare services but also help to raise the living standards of the surrounding community.

According to him, Kota Samarahan is the only location in Sarawak that has institutions of higher learning to produce knowledgeable individuals, health centres such as clinics and heart centres to treat patients, and a future infectious disease research centre.

“This division is also located near the Samajaya area, which can meet any manufacturing needs,” he said at the launching ceremony of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council’s (MPKS) ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)/Healthy City’ held on Monday at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre.

Dr Sim added that a proposal will also be made to the Federal government to establish a cancer treatment hospital in this location.

He also explained that the Samarahan City Heart Centre will serve as the focal point for all health-related facilities.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government urged the people of Kota Samarahan to adopt a culture of environmental cleanliness in order to create a clean and well-kept city.

“This is in line with the SDGs related to the goal of creating a healthy and safe city,” he added.

Also present at the ceremony was the Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datu Antonio Kahti Galis, and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos. — DayakDaily
