Kitchen cabinet construction company owner claims trial to 26 charges of cheating

KUCHING, April 29: The owner of a kitchen cabinet construction company was slapped with 26 charges of dishonestly inducing 20 individuals to pay deposits to construct kitchen cabinets and not carrying out the construction work as promised.

Sim Siaw Siong, 36, was charged with 26 charges in three different Magistrate’s Courts here today.


He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The magistrates fixed June 8 and 9 for pre-trial case management.

He was charged with cheating 20 individuals by deceiving them to believe that he provided kitchen cabinet construction services and dishonestly induced the victims to pay him deposits to construct kitchen cabinets, between June 2020 and April 2021.

A total of approximately RM80,000 in deposits had been paid by the victims to the accused.

Sim was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of between one year and 10 years and with whipping and liable to fine, upon conviction.

On April 17, 17 victims gathered at the Sungai Maong Police Station and lodged police reports against the accused, alleging the accused had received the deposits they had paid for the construction of kitchen cabinets but the work was never carried out. — DayakDaily
