KUCHING, March 19: Sarawak’s renowned boxer, Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong — better known as ‘Kilat Boy’ — has reached a major career milestone after receiving a special invitation to compete in the prestigious IBA Intercontinental Boxing Championship.

According to a TVS news report, Kilat Boy — currently ranked number one in Malaysia and 210th globally — said the unexpected selection came as a pleasant surprise, despite it being a long-held dream.

“Alhamdulillah, I am very happy with this achievement. At the same time, receiving a special invitation to the IBA Intercontinental Boxing is one of my highest accomplishments this year,” he was quoted as saying.

The invitation, Kilat Boy said, was extended based on his ranking, star rating, and the fighting style he has showcased in the ring.

Kilat Boy credited his recent performances—particularly his January and February matches—for catching the attention of event organisers.

His most recent win came in February at the Johor International Boxing Championship 2025, where he defeated Filipino fighter Prince Andrew Laurio. That victory, he said, played a pivotal role in opening the door to the international tournament.

“After that victory, I immediately received a message confirming that I was eligible for the special invitation. It was a surprise for me,” he shared.

As part of his preparation, Kilat Boy will resume training next week following the completion of his filming commitments for the movie ‘Tumbukan Emas’.

“I will intensify my efforts in training, focus more on sparring sessions, improve my game strategy, and sharpen my punches.

“Insya-Allah, I will enhance every aspect to give my best performance in this major tournament,” he added. — DayakDaily
