SIBU, Sept 13: Members of the public aged 60 and above will have the opportunity to apply for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) at Kingwood Hotel in conjunction with the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Central Zone Convention.
Minister of Women, Children, and Community Welfare, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, announced during a press conference that the Sarawak Social Welfare Department would operate a counter on the hotel’s fifth floor from Oct 28-29.
This initiative aims to facilitate new KGC applications from convention delegates and extend the benefits of KGC to eligible seniors who are not yet cardholders.
Fatimah explained, “This is to provide an opportunity for new applications from Convention delegates from the Central Zone and also old applications that are not yet members of KGC to get them.”
She also emphasised that the presence of this counter would make it easier for out-of-town delegates to apply for the card.
“We feel that the number of delegations that will attend is quite large, so we want to provide services especially to delegation members from outside the city who did not have the opportunity to apply for KCG before,” she added.
Fatimah highlighted that eligible applicants, particularly convention delegates, would have the opportunity to receive their cards on the same day, addressing concerns about delays in card distribution.
Regarding the existing KGC holders who have not received their cards, Fatimah cited reasons such as changes in contact information and addresses, making it challenging to reach them.
She also provided statistics, stating that from Jan 2, 2020, to Aug 31 this year, a total of 264,941 KGC cards have been distributed, with 35,282 of them being from Sibu Division.
Fatimah emphasised the involvement of private companies and commercial centers as strategic partners of KGC, with 458 registered throughout Sarawak and 39 in Sibu alone.
She extended an invitation to government bodies, corporations, private enterprises, and commercial companies from Sibu Division to become strategic partners of KGC and contribute to the well-being of Sarawak’s people.
The Central Zone PBB Convention is expected to host approximately 2,500 members from 23 branches. — DayakDaily
