Agong thanks former PM Najib for Pan Borneo Highway, promises to return to Sarawak in 2030

KUCHING, Sept 13: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has personally thanked former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his administration for realising the construction of Pan Borneo Highway which allows ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour to take place.

He said he was informed by a minister and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in the latter’s speech, that the Sarawak government has more plans to provide infrastructure development in the State.


“I was informed that the Pan Borneo Highway will reach full completion between 2026 up to 2030.

“I wish to personally convey my thanks to the former prime minister Dato Seri Najib Razak and his government at that time because they had worked to realise the construction of Pan Borneo Highway project.

“I also hope that the Pan Borneo Highway can be built properly with quality and if possible, by the year 2030, I will return to Sarawak,” he said when speaking at a state banquet held at Pullman Hotel here last night (Sept 12).

The King further said that his objective in suggesting ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour was solely to get to know better Sabah and Sarawak, the livelihood of local folk and the condition of facilities in both States.

“In summary, Alhamdulillah that throughout the tour, there was (district) road, there was highway, sometimes the highway was similar to Dubai and sometimes we felt like riding a rollercoaster,” he commented.
