KUCHING, March 17: Folk in Kedup have been urged to take up independent chicken farming to breed free-range chicken to increase their income and develop the local economy.

Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Martin Ben said residents could start small and slowly increase production once they master the necessary skills.

He noted that the demand for free-range chicken is high because it is tastier and the price is relatively higher than conventionally raised chicken, according to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Martin, who is also Kedup assemblyman, was officiating at the Free Range Chicken Management and Handling Course opening ceremony held at Satomaya Free Range Chicken & Husbandry Farm in Serian on Thursday (March 16).

He said Satomaya’s ability to export their production to Singapore proves a great opportunity for locals to become contract partners with Satomaya to meet the growing demand for chicken. — DayakDaily
