PRS Pakan youth chief joins voices calling for Salang to stand in Julau

Manja Rengan

KUCHING, Oct 25: As the secretary-general of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Datuk Janang Bungsu should support his party president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum instead of vying against him for the nomination to contest in Julau.

PRS Pakan youth chief Manja Rengan said Janang’s statement which came “back-to-back” with Meluan assemblyman Roland Duat Jubin’s statement seems to suggest some element of sabotage within party.

“Janang as a PRS secretary-general, knows very well that the president, through previous news report had stated his commitment to wrest back the Julau seat and PRS Pakan-Meluan machinery is already being set up and ever ready to assist the president,” said Manja in a press statement.

“As a secretary-general, he (Janang) should protect the interest and sanctity of the president and party and not confuse the people of Julau.”

He said the effort to transform the agriculture sector in Julau does not necessarily have to come solely from elected representatives.

“As one of the party leaders who hold a secretary-general post, he (Janang) should contribute to the development of Julau too, not to compete as a candidate with the party president,” said Manja.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Rolland Duat recently said PRS should field a new candidate instead of former Julau MP Salang .

Janang himself also made a recent public statement saying that if he were to be fielded for Julau, he would focus on improving agriculture in the constituency. — DayakDaily
