KUCHING, May 12: Kapit has the potential to become a focal point for hosting various exciting events due to the uniqueness of Dayak customs and culture, says its MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
In a Facebook post, he added that it not only can drive small and medium-sized industries related to tradition and culture, but it can also elevate the dignity of the community.
“That is why I commend the initiative of organising the Kapit Dayak Cultural Festival (KDCF) 3.0, which holds significant meaning for the Dayak community and the residents of Kapit,” he said.
Nanta, who is also the federal Works Minister, said that the KDCF, held annually since 2023 and now listed in the Sarawak Calendar of Tourism Events, is not only popular among locals, but is also increasingly recognised by people from other states and even abroad.
“I also hope that KDCF’s objectives will continue to be strengthened in preserving and spreading Dayak culture, customs, and handicrafts.
“In addition to its aim of promoting Kapit Division as a tourism destination that highlights the Dayak’s culture, traditions, and traditional foods, KDCF also serves as a platform to foster a society that respects and cherishes Dayak customs and culture, ultimately acting as a medium to unite and strengthen community bonds,” he said.
Through these objectives, he also hoped that KDCF would continue to improve and attract more Kapit residents to get involved in the festival.
“Furthermore, I encourage KDCF to continue organising various engaging programs, especially the ‘Pekit Kumang’, because its purpose goes beyond showcasing the beauty of Dayak women—it also nurtures many young people skilled in weaving, making pua kumbu, kain buri, and other crafts, thus driving the community’s socio-economic activities.” — DayakDaily
