KUCHING, May 19: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has reminded those who will be returning to their hometowns for the upcoming Gawai Dayak to be cautious when driving through or passing the landslide areas in the constituency.
In a Facebook post, he said he was pleased to see that landslide repair works along the Sipan/Temalat road in Song were being carried out by the appointed contractor.
Nanta, who is also the Minister of Works, said warning signs have also been installed by the contractor on both sides of the Sibu/Kanowit–Song–Kapit road to ensure the safety of road users.
“In this regard, I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public—especially those returning to their hometowns for the Gawai Dayak celebration—to be extra cautious when driving through or passing the landslide area. Additionally, I hope the repair work will continue smoothly.
“Although it may take some time before the repairs are fully completed, the visible progress made so far helps to ensure greater safety for those travelling on the road,” he said.
On May 13, Nanta instructed the relevant authorities to install more warning signs along the road in Song following an accident involving a pickup truck, which crashed into a ravine at Jalan Temalat in Song, injuring the driver as well.
He expressed concern that while locals are generally aware of landslide-prone zones in the area, visitors may not be, increasing the risk of accidents. — DayakDaily
