KUCHING, May 19: The grand finale of Miss Tasik Biru 2025 drew thousands of spectators as Bidayuh-Berawan beauty Joana Jane Francis from Kampung Stenggang, Bau, was crowned the winner, triumphing over eight other finalists in the Tasik Biru Festival’s most anticipated event.
The Sunday night (May 18) showdown was graced by Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Maritime and Riverine), Dato Henry Harry Jinep, and his wife, Christina Esni Mied, who came to show their support for all the contestants.
Currently a 22-year-old TESL degree student at the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) Batu Lintang Campus, Joana expressed deep gratitude after her win and shared her vision for the title.
“What I want to do after winning this title is to promote my own hometown and my own heritage that I am proud of, which is Tasik Biru.
“This is where I grew up, where my family and I share many memories. It’s also where my high school friends and I still gather to reconnect and talk about life. Winning this title is truly an honour,” she told reporters after the event.
Joana, whose father is Berawan from Marudi and mother is Bidayuh from Kampung Stenggang, hopes to use the platform to highlight the cultural richness of her heritage.
She walked away with a trophy, crown, RM3,000 cash prize, bouquet, and an exclusive beauty and makeup package after excelling in the Q&A and talent segments.
She also received the Best Skin award, a testament to her radiant charm and poise.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Melanie Melvy Betong was named first runner-up, followed by 19-year-old Shanelle Ellyssa Justine as second runner-up and winner of Best Video.

Noradila Kavin took third runner-up and impressed with Best Evening Gown, while Melcy James placed fourth runner-up and earned the Miss Photogenic title.
Finalists Gillian Octavyia Vincent, Axiomara Tijan, Falesyia Harry, and Mathilda Valentia Yaya also shone, with Gillian winning Best Catwalk, Axiomara securing Miss Popular Vote, Falesyia taking Best Talent, and Mathilda honoured as Miss Congeniality.
More than just a celebration of beauty, the Miss Tasik Biru pageant highlights intelligence, confidence, and personality, cementing its place as the main highlight of the annual Tasik Biru Festival.
With overwhelming support from the local community, the event continues to be a key platform for uplifting young talents and showcasing the unique cultural tapestry of the Tasik Biru area. — DayakDaily
