KAPIT, Sept 30: Consumers here have been advised to check the price of Covid-19 antigen rapid self-test kits before buying them.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Kapit chief Englebert Inggath Desmond Japar in a statement today said despite all pharmacies selling the items according to the ceiling price of RM19.90, it is still better for consumers to look at the price first before buying kits.

He said based on inspections conducted by his team from Sept 5 to 29, all pharmacies had complied with the ceiling price set by the government.

“We found that there was no pharmacy selling above the ceiling price. There is also enough supply of the item here,” he said, adding that they had also did not receive any complaints from the public pertaining to the price.

He however warned traders not to hike the price of the item as stern action will be taken against them under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 201 if they are caught.

The Act provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisoned not exceeding three years or both, or compounded up to RM50,000 for an individual. For companies guilty of infringement, they can be fined up to RM500,000 or compounded up to RM250,000. — DayakDaily
