BINTANGOR, Sept 30: A new swimming pool costing RM8.5 million is expected to become the next training grounds for athletes in Sarikei.

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the project was approved by the Sarawak government.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing expressed his appreciation to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the construction of the new swimming pool in Bintangor through the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The new swimming pool will be constructed next to the Bintangor Sports Complex.

Ding hoped that the new swimming pool will benefit athletes from other districts such as Julau and Pakan.

During a site inspection for the construction of the new swimming pool yesterday, Ding explained that the site was relocated a few times and the cost of the project has increased before the Youth and Sports Ministry finalised it to be constructed next to the Bintangor Sports Complex.

As such, he hoped the construction of the new swimming pool can commence as soon as possible as it will benefit all the people in Meradong. — DayakDaily
