KANOWIT, July 10: Construction on a new RM185.2 million water treatment plant with a capacity of 25 million litres per day (MLD) has begun in Kanowit to strengthen the district’s water supply system amid growing demand.
According to Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, the project will significantly increase Kanowit’s water supply capacity compared with the existing treatment plant, which can produce only 4.86 MLD.
“The construction of this new treatment plant is in line with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to ensuring residents enjoy an adequate and more sustainable water supply.
According to Julaihi, construction of the project is progressing smoothly.
“Once completed, it will benefit the people of Kanowit,” he said after visiting the project site here today in a TVS report. — DayakDaily
