KUCHING, July 24: Kampung Kanchong Baru, Gedong in Simunjan District has been put under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from today until Aug 6.

This was announced by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today.

Just yesterday, the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) has reported that eight mosques and suraus in Samarahan Division have been temporarily closed following positive cases detected involving a member of ‘kariah’ (an area surrounding a mosque or surau).

The good news is that SDMC did not announce any extension of the EMCO      implementation in any of the previous areas being put under lockdown.

SDMC also ended the implementation of EMCO at two areas today, namely Miri Central Prison in Miri and a workers’ quarters at Sime Darby Plantation in Bintulu.

At the same time, SDMC reported that Betong and Pakan have turned zone status from orange to red after recording 42 and 46 local infection cases respectively, in the last 14 days. This brings the total number of red districts in Sarawak to 18.

Telang Usan has turned from red to orange, bringing the total number of orange districts to seven.

On the other hand, Lubok Antu has turned orange to yellow while Tanjung Manis turned from green to yellow today. At present, there are 12 yellow districts and three green districts in the State. — DayakDaily
