KUCHING, March 26: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien has lauded Sarawak ministers for raising the possibility of establishing a casino in Kuching.
“Having a casino in Kuching is a bold approach that will spur Sarawak’s tourism and hospitality industry manifolds.
“Needless to say, safeguards will need to be in place to limit the exposure of locals.
“I fully endorse this suggestion and take my hat off to (Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah) and (Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn) for raising this possibility,” he said in a Facebook post last night (March 25).
The idea of setting up a casino, specifically at Borneo Highlands Resort at Jalan Puncak Borneo, was first brought up by a reporter to Abdul Karim during a function in Kuching on March 21 in relation to the development of the resort.
Following this, Abdul Karim, on March 22, deliberated that he was open to the idea, provided that it is properly regulated.
Nevertheless, he stressed that the decision as to whether or not the casino can be established lies with the Sarawak government.
Meanwhile, Sagah, when asked on the same topic yesterday, said he is receptive to the idea, which would spur economic activity along Jalan Puncak Borneo. — DayakDaily
