KUCHING, March 25: Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn says he is receptive of the idea for a casino to be built at Borneo Highlands Resort.

He said the project would help to attract private investors and spur the economy.

“I am supportive of the idea by some quarters for a casino to be built in Borneo Highlands Resort because it will help our economy to grow, while at the same time attract private investors.

“By having a casino, it will benefit all areas along Jalan Puncak Borneo,” Sagah told a press conference today.

The Tarat assemblyman, however, pointed out that there must be proper guidelines to control gambling in the region.

He earlier officiated at the opening of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) and Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA) symposium at DBNA multi purpose hall.

“If we have a casino, it does not mean we encourage gambling for all, so there must be a proper guidelines.”

According to him, Singapore, which once opposed the establishment of a casino in the republic eventually allowed two to be built, one in Marina Bay Sands and one on the island of Sentosa.

“Look at Singapore now (how it has developed) with its tourism and economy,” he stressed. — DayakDaily
