MIRI, March 26: Mount Sio, or now known as ‘Gunung Doa’, the Prayer Mountain in Lio Mato, Ulu Baram here, is believed to be a place that leads to heaven.

Legend says that there was once a person who climbed a ladder up into the sky, reached heaven, and lived a luxurious life there.

Ungau Njau, from Lio Mato, said the folklore led to the mountain’s name, Sio, which means “living a luxurious life” in the Kenyah language.

“Until this day, people still go to the mountain to pray,” he told DayakDaily when met at Lio Mato Village yesterday (March 24).

Until this day, Christians from the churches in Ulu Baram have been visiting Mount Sio to pray and worship in large groups. Sometimes, they also organise spring cleaning activities.
