SIBU, April 17: To ensure the safety of travellers using the express bus service over the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period, Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu Branch recently inspected express buses that will operate in the period covering before and after the festival.

In a statement, JPJ Sibu said their team from the JPJ Sibu Automotive Engineering Unit, led by the JPJ Sibu Branch head, Mohamad Faizal David Jemat, began the inspection of express buses at bus company depots in Sibu town.

The 4-day inspection and monitoring from April 14–17 was a pre-Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 (Ops HRA 2023) initiative which was launched simultaneously across the country.

Ops HRA 2023 will be from 18–27 April.

“Among the focus (points) in the inspections is the technical aspects of the express bus including tires, braking systems, lights, mirrors, reversing lights and GPS systems,” JPJ Sibu said.

It added that every technical and physical aspect of the bus, whether external or internal, will be carefully inspected to ensure that every aspect complies with the standards set and that the bus is safe and comfortable to use on the road.

“Express buses that have passed the inspection will be issued an inspection confirmation notice that is valid for a period of 14 days and is pasted in the front windshield for reference by the JPJ enforcement team during operations,” it added.

JPJ Sibu said express buses which failed these tests will not be allowed to operate until the required technical and physical aspects are fixed and fully improved.

JPJ will not compromise with the safety and comfort aspects of passengers and other road users.

Meanwhile, passengers and members of the public can channel details and information regarding unsatisfactory bus driver conduct as well as bus conditions to official complaint channels including the Sarawak State JPJ Facebook page for further action. — DayakDaily
