KUCHING, Aug 12: Mirians may now conduct transactions with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) directly or via walk-in at the Miri Post Office starting yesterday (Aug 11).
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the decision was made following a discussion with the Pos Malaysia Sarawak general manager last Tuesday (Aug 10).
“This is to resolve the complaints from the members of the public in Miri, who do not know how to use the online appointments system for driving licence and road tax renewal,” he said in a statement.
On the same note, Pos Malaysia Miri branch manager, Syukari Mohamad said Miri Post Office has set up a total of seven counters, including two reserved counters for driving licence and road tax renewals.
He said the counters are operating from Monday until Friday from 8am until 5pm, and from 8am until 12.30pm on Saturday (closed on third Saturday of every month).
“For the post office located in Boulevard, three counters will be open only on Wednesday, and two counters will operate daily, which is from 9am until 5pm. In addition, the public may also use the Pos Malaysia mobile application,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lee disclosed the operation time for JPJ in the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Miri will be extended from 8am until 5pm.
He said all of the services at the JPJ counter are available either directly or via walk-in, except for JPJ operations in Kuching and Serian, which are still under the Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
“Upon the request from the public, the Ministry of Transport Sarawak has contacted the JPJ Sarawak director regarding the matter, and the department has agreed to extend the operating time. Effective today (Aug 11), JPJ’s operations at UTC are from 8am to 5pm, in order to facilitate the public,” he said.
Lee also suggested that the public register for the Sarawak Pay mobile application and utilise the services provided such as for paying utility bills and many others.
“They can pay their utility bills from home only by scanning the QR code printed on the bills. This will save their time, and help to prevent them from being exposed to the danger of the disease,” he said. — DayakDaily
