KUCHING, March 29: PETRONAS and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of United Kingdom (UK) join forces to fund Chevening Scholarships in sponsoring two Malaysians annually to pursue a one-year master’s degree in sustainability studies at a leading UK university.

The collaboration took place following the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PETRONAS representative, senior vice president of Group Human Resource Management (GHRM) Farehana Hanapiah and British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Her Excellency Ailsa Terry, CMG.

Chevening Scholarships will include coverage for academic tuition fees, examination and thesis costs, monthly living stipends as well as allowances throughout the entire year of the students’ study.

According to Farehana, the partnership not only highlights PETRONAS’ commitment to nurturing talent in sustainable development, but also signifies a focus on environmental sustainability, climate change, and low carbon transition that reflects global goals.

“This collaboration aligns with PETRONAS’ ‘Powering Knowledge’ initiative in addition to supporting the UK-Malaysia partnership in achieving sustainability goals,” she said.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary last year, Chevening, with over 2,000 alumni in Malaysia, aims to develop future leaders worldwide by recognizing individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to creating positive change in their home countries and communities. — DayakDaily
