Jobless woman jailed 2 years and 7 months for drug offence

KUCHING, May 28: The Magistrate’s Court today sentenced a jobless woman to 2 years and 7 months behind bars for possessing 8.13g of methamphetamine.

After Noni Osthman pleaded guilty, Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof meted out the sentence and ordered the imprisonment term to run from the date of arrest.


Noni was found with the drug at a house in 7th Mile, Penrissen Road, at about 8.45pm on Feb 14 this year.

She was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, which carries imprisonment of between 2 years and 5 years and whipping of between 3 strokes and 9 strokes, upon conviction.

DPP Muhammad Hafiz Musa and prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.— DayakDaily
