Jobless man claims trial to armed robbery

KUCHING, March 22: An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to armed robbery. As the offence, framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code is non-bailable, the accused is further detained in police custody.

Judge Marutin Pagan fixed April 12 for pre-trial case management.


Lai Saw Choong, 34, was charged with robbing Bong Li Hong, 19, of RM350 with a cutting knife at a premise near Jalan Rock at about 9.50am on Feb 9 this year.

He was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code and be read together with Section 397 of the same Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 14 years and liable to whipping.

Since arms were used in the commission of the crime, the offender shall be liable to be whipped in addition to any other punishment to which he may be liable under any other section of this Code, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Azhari Yusof prosecuted, while the accused was represented by counsel Lim Lian Kee. — DayakDaily
