BINTULU, Oct 21: Folks in Jepak, especially the Vaie community, are hoping for more technical training institutions with higher standards like the Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP) to be built.

Persatuan Anaq Vaie president Pandi Suhaili, who is also a former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member, said the people would also like a Centexs Bintulu.

He said the existing Giatmara Bintulu institute only offers basic technical courses which they deem insufficient to produce professional workers.

“Giatmara is very basic level. What we want is something like INSTEP here in Bintulu. They have INSTEP in Terengganu but not all can afford to send their kids to Terengganu.

“We want high standard technical training institutions so that we can produce skilled local workers for the oil and gas industry,” he told DayakDaily when met yesterday.

He opined that quality tertiary education remains one of the priority needs for Jepak youth.

Meanwhile, local trader Rosmawati Ros, who sells ‘kuih muih’ by the roadside, said the settlement is in dire need of some automated teller machines for convenience.

Other than that, she also brought up the need for a police station and a fire station. She said these are the only facilities that have been lacking until today. — DayakDaily
