KUCHING, Oct 4: Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya has directed two teams from his Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) service centre to assist the family of the late fireman Yahya Ali, 24, who was among the six Bomba divers who drowned while trying to save a 17-year old boy yesterday.
According to Juanda, he had also sent his personal condolences to Yahya’s family.
“As soon I was alerted of the tragic incident, we dispatched our teams from our N.44 PBB Jemoreng service centre to assist the family of the late Yahya Ali.
“To me, it’s very sad news as he’s my relative. And I wish to put on record my deepest condolences to his family,” Juanda, who is currently on an official trip overseas, told DayakDaily.
He hoped the government would assist the families of the other five victims.
The six divers died after getting caught in a whirlpool in their attempt to search for a teenager who had slipped into a mining pool in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong, yesterday. The boy is still missing.
Meanwhile, Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi said he was waiting for the remains of the victim to arrive at his house in Kpg Tian, Matu.
“We would assist in any way possible to lighten the burden of the family as they are my relatives,” said Ahmad.
Ahmad considered Yahya to have died a martyr and also a national hero. — DayakDaily
