SARIKEI, Feb 20: The Jalan Pasi-Tanjung Manis project, which includes the construction of the Batang Rajang Bridge worth RM321 million, is now ahead of schedule and is expected to be fully completed by May next year.
In a TVS news report today, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the implementation of the 17km-long road is progressing smoothly at a completion rate of 86 per cent.
He also expressed optimism that the project might be completed ahead of schedule based on the positive performance.
“I understand that the project’s progress is almost two per cent ahead of schedule and is expected to be fully completed in May next year.
“In fact, we have also been informed that the last span of this bridge will be completed by September this year at the latest,” he said during a visit to the project site today.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh accompanied him.
According to Aidel, the project is one of the coastal road construction packages implemented by the Sarawak government aimed at facilitating communication and empowering the rural community’s economic potential.
In addition to the route, he said, Sarawak also has a coastal road package from Sematan to Miri, including several major bridges.
“Not only that, the second main road crossing the entire rural area between the coastal road and the Pan Borneo Highway is expected to contribute to rural development,” he said. — DayakDaily
