SIBU, Feb 20: The shortage of red gas cylinders in Sarawak is getting more serious, and many people have difficulty getting a gas cylinder, let alone replacing yellow cylinders with red ones, says Sibu MP Oscar Ling.

“Some dealers have even suffered losses due to the insufficient supply of red gas barrels,” he added.

Ling stressed that recently he has received complaints not only from urban residents, but also from those in rural areas over the matter .

“If the problem persists, the Muslim Ramadan (month) and even the Hari Raya celebration might also be affected,” he warned.

Ling expressed regret that no one seemed to be answering the hotline service provided by the Sarawak government.

“The whole situation seems like there is nothing even the Sarawak State government can do to change the current situation,” he said.

He alleged the Sarawak government did not provide a comprehensive and complete supply plan when Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) was given sole distribution of LPG in the State, resulting in the current shortage of gas cylinders becoming increasingly serious.

Ling said if there were no immediate emergency measures, market chaos would result as coffee shops may face a shortage of gas barrels and the public would not have cooking gas at home.

He called on the Sarawak government to immediately intervene to solve the matter and avoid causing social chaos.

“The Sarawak government should speed up the pace of work and speed up the pace of solving problems so that the people of Sarawak can have peace of mind,” he said. — DayakDaily
