MIRI, April 17: A 12-year-old boy involved in an accident near the Miri Airport yesterday is still in intensive care unit (ICU).

The collision which occurred at around 2.47pm yesterday resulted the death of the 39-year-old driver on the spot while the 12-year-old passenger who was admitted to the Miri General Hospital is still under intensive care.

This is contrary to a statement made by Miri City Council (MCC) earlier suggesting that the young boy had passed away.

According to a press statement by Miri City Council (MCC), a MCC contractor was conducting a daily routine job along Jalan Airport when a Perodua Aruz ran into the contractor’s lorry from behind resulting in the death of both the driver and the 12-year-old passenger.

MCC said since a police report has been lodged, this matter is pending investigation by the police.

“MCC will look into this matter seriously and will give full cooperation to the police in the investigation process.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family.

“In view of this, we would like to appeal to the general public not to speculate on this incident since it is already in the hands of the police for further investigation,” said MCC. — DayakDaily
