Indonesian sentenced to hang for trafficking meth

KUCHING, March 15: The High Court here convicted an Indonesian over a drug trafficking charge and sentenced him to death.

Aguansyah, 34, faced two charges for drug trafficking and drug possession.

High Court Judicial Commissioner (JC) Alexander Siew How Wai today convicted him on both charges and sentenced him to a death sentence on the first charge, and one-year imprisonment on the second charge, after a full trial.

The accused was charged with trafficking 7,225.3 grammes of methamphetamine at the roadside near Helen Ngu Women Hospital, Batu 3 Jalan Rock, at about 7.50am on October 10, 2019.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries a death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping of not less than 15 strokes, upon conviction.

He was sentenced to death under this charge.

The accused was also charged with possessing 8.75 grammes of nimetazepam at the same place, time and date as the first charge.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine up to RM100,000 or both upon conviction.
