KUCHING, Oct 13: Those spending on electric vehicle (EV) charging ports can enjoy an income tax exemption of up to RM2,500 for four years, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the Federal government is also proposing to extend the tax rebates for EV rentals for another two years.

“The government will continue to boost the development of the local EV industry and encourage people’s acceptance of EV use,” he said when tabling the Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

To encourage usage of electric motorcycles among individuals earning RM120,000 and below, Anwar said the unity government is proposing to introduce a scheme that can provide rebates up to RM2,400 for motorists.

Meanwhile, the government welcomes an investment of over RM170 million by leading companies such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Gentari and Tesla Malaysia to install 180 EV charging stations. — DayakDaily
