SIBU, Feb 13: Sibu Municipal Council has decided to extend the closure of the Central Market by another five days from Feb 15 to 19.

Chairman Clarence Ting said today that the extension was due to the increase of Covid-19 positive cases in the town.

“After receiving reports today from Sibu Divisional Health Office that there is an increase of positive COVID-19 cases at Sibu Central Market, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has decided to extend the closure period of Sibu Central Market for another five (5) days effective Feb 15 to 19, ” he said.

Ting said the council’s top priority is the health and safety of all the hawkers and the general public at large.

“Therefore, SMC has decided that all hawkers at Sibu Central Market are required to undergo the mandatory PCR swab tests at the nearest government clinic or at the drive-through swab test facility provided by KKM at Pustaka Negeri, Sibu,” he added.

The council, he said will review the status of the Central Market operation by Feb 19 by taking into consideration the swab test result of each and every operator.

“Let’s continue to play our role, do our part sincerely and be a responsible citizen in order to prevent and stop the spread of Covid-19 in Sibu,” he appealed. -DayakDaily
