Inaugural HSL Samarahan Marathon 2024 draws over 2,000 local, int’l participants

KUCHING, May 12: The inaugural Hock Seng Lee (HSL) Samarahan Marathon 2024 was a success, drawing over 2,000 local and international participants.

The two-day fitness festival started with a six and three-kilometre Fun Run on May 11, followed by the 10km, 21km, and 42km categories today.

Kenyan runner Lukas Muteti clocked an impressive time of 02:42:47, coming on top of other runners in the 42km male category, while Dorcas Taurus, who is also from Kenya, emerged victorious in the female category.

In the half marathon (21km), Muhammad Asyraf claimed the male title by cloaking at 01:17:19, while Sally Ann Yap Yu Ing triumphed among the female participants, finishing at 01:35:25.

Similarly, Muhammad Shahir and Hii Win Nie emerged as winners in the male and female categories, respectively, for the 10km mini-marathon.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, accompanied by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) Dato Peter Minos and HSL Realty Sdn Bhd director and HSL Samarahan Marathon organising committee co-chairman Yu Ji, presented the cash prizes of about RM60,000 to the winners.

Among others, special recognition was also bestowed upon Voon Kim Choon for his imaginative costumes that spread joy among participants during the festival Fun Run held on May 11. — DayakDaily
