KAPIT, May 12: Gawai comes early for 30,000 residents of Kapit’s town centre as 5G internet access is expected to be available by June 15.

According to Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, he was informed by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) that installation works for the connectivity upgrade will cover a 5km radius around the Kapit District Council (MDK).

“We currently have 4G internet access, but it’s insufficient. I have been assured (by DNB) that the installation will be completed by June 15, if not earlier,” Ugak said to the media after attending a pre-Gawai Dayak celebration at the Kapit Civic Centre yesterday (May 11) night.

To him, it is important to prioritise in ensuring adequate internet access in the town’s administrative area, especially considering the prevalent complaints about connectivity issues that hamper productivity and service delivery.

“It is crucial for administrative hubs like Kapit town centre, where hospitals, councils, and schools are located, to have reliable and fast internet coverage,” he said, and hoped that Belaga would be the subsequent area to reap the benefits of 5G internet access.

Also present were Federal Work Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Law) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat. –DayakDaily
