KUCHING, July 29: The construction of the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Serian project is 25.39 per cent behind schedule due to disruptions and restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Saravanan Murugan informed that the project that started on April 26, 2018 has been scheduled to be completed by Aug 28 this year.

“As for the status of the project as of January this year, the percentage of work completed is at 56.42 per cent from the intended schedule of 81.81 per cent, which is a delay of 25.39 per cent.

“The delay is due to the impact from Movement Control Order (MCO), apart from the instruction to close the construction site due to Covid-19 infections,” he said when responding to a question from Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.

Saravanan added that there was a work change instruction issued to the contractor following the change in the scope of work which also contributed to the project’s delay. — DayakDaily
