KUCHING, May 25: ‘If Sarawak is happy, then I am happy’—these were the words spoken by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the ASEAN Women Economic Summit (AWES) 2025 panel session on ‘Leading ASEAN Sustainability and Digitalisation’ held in Kuala Lumpur today.
Near the end of the panel session, its moderator, Ng Wei Wei, who is also the chief executive officer for UOB Malaysia, asked the Premier what drives him and keeps him going despite his packed schedule.
“This is the most difficult question to answer—I think answering (questions) about energy is easier,” Abang Johari quipped, earning him chuckles from the audience.
Nevertheless, he answered that it all boils down to the individual and three aspects—passion, integrity, and their objectives in life.
“Do your job in a way that will benefit people. You can be happy if you see someone who is successful because of what you have contributed.
“If Sarawak is happy, then I’m happy—even to the extent that if Malaysia is successful, then I’m happy because I have contributed (on behalf of Sarawak) to Malaysia’s success,” he said. — DayakDaily
