Hikers turn into runners to flee from MCO enforcement

SIBU, Feb 14: Hiking is one of the activities disallowed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) here.

Four hikers however defied the order when they took to the trails at yesterday at the Jalan Kemuyang hiking site.

At about 6pm when a police MCO enforcement team passed by the area, they stumbled on one of the hikers who had completed the activity and was getting ready to head home.


Three other hikers escaped using the hiking trail. They however left their vehicles behind.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed the case, revealing a 41-year-old man was fined RM1,000 for indulging in the activity.

The compounding action was taken under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021. — DayakDaily
