SIBU, March 22: A total of 24 individuals were fined RM24,000 for not complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) at two separate coffee shops here last night.

Acting District Police Chief Supt Dr Collin Babat said, all of them were locals aged between 17 and 46, including five women.

“All of them were compounded under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection (PPN) Amendment (3) 2021 Regulations,” he said.

Ten individuals were issued compounds for not checking in via MySejahtera during a raid conducted by an integrated SOP monitoring team at 10.40pm at a coffee shop in Jalan Bako.

Meanwhile, in the second raid at a coffee shop in Sibu Jaya at 11.50pm, 14 men were also compounded for the same offence and also for not observing physical distancing.

Collin said all those compounded were fined RM1,000 each.

“All the compounds were issued by senior police officer ASP Kushairy Bujang and the compounds must be settled within 14 days,” he explained.

He also advised the public to always abide by SOPs under Phase 4 of the NRP as set by the National Security Council (MKN) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The SOP monitoring and inspection team will continue (to carry out enforcement) from time to time. They will not hesitate to take stern action against any individual who fails to comply with the SOPs,” he added. — DayakDaily
