KUCHING, Aug 11: The Salvation Army Kuching will host a charity sale on August 31 to raise funds for the underprivileged.
In a statement today, the Corps Officer and Team Leader for The Salvation Army Kuching, Captain Raymond Aloba, said they hope that with the amount obtained from the charity sale, the work of The Salvation Army in Kuching can be further expanded, and more underprivileged people can be assisted.
He also said they are moving into our new home in Kota Samarahan in early September.
“The new centre will enable us to accommodate even more children.
“We are also planning other community outreach programmes such as providing income-generating projects for single mothers,” he added.
The event, also known as ‘Sale of Work’, will begin from 8am until 12 noon at ACS (Association of Churches Sarawak), Jalan Stampin, Kuching, and will be attended by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
Members of the public can also know more about the work and services of The Salvation Army Kuching and lend their support by purchasing a variety of items on sale from about 80 stalls that will operate on the day.
Apart from that, there will also be special performances from the Kuching Children’s Home and Kuching Boys’ Home residents.
Since 1959, The Salvation Army Kuching has been caring for and sheltering babies and children who were orphaned, disabled or come from high-risk families at its Kuching Children’s Home in Jalan Uplands and Kuching Boys Home at Jalan Ban Hock.
Their services have now included community care, including family counselling, financial counselling, food aid, emergency aid and relief in times of crises like fire and flood, and a social enterprise in the form of a thrift store (collecting and selling preloved items such as clothing, books, furniture and children’s toys).
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and rising inflation costs, there is now an increase in requests from people who need assistance, especially from marginalised communities.
This is where the fundraising is crucial to enable The Salvation Army Kuching team to provide care and respite where it is most needed, especially in areas surrounding Kuching. All funds raised from this event will be kept and used for the benefit of the Sarawak people.
