Hawkers fined RM3,000 each for illegally possessing fireworks, firecrackers

KUCHING, May 27: The Magistrate’s Court here fined two hawkers RM3,000 each for illegally possessing fireworks and firecrackers.

The two hawkers were respectively charged in two different Magistrate’s Courts.


Wan Khatijah Wan Tuah, 34, was charged with possessing 361 pieces of firecrackers, 20 pieces of Thunder Cat fireworks, 12 boxes of Mercun Padi, 8 pieces of Magical Shot fireworks, 55 boxes of pop-pop, 30 pieces of Mercun Gasing, 7 plastics of Dragon Eggs fireworks and 4 boxes of Mercun Mancis illegally, at the India Street Pedestrian Mall, at about 12.35pm on May 3, 2021.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali sentenced her to a fine of RM3,000 or in default to two months’ imprisonment.

Putit Lamat, 61, was charged with possessing 4 boxes of pop-pop. 3 boxes of Dragon Egg fireworks, 1 box of Pirate King firework, and 2 boxes of Happy Boom firecrackers illegally, at the India Street Pedestrian Mall, at about 12.30pm on May 3, 2021.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced him to a fine of RM3,000 or in default to seven months’ imprisonment.

They were arrested by a team of police led by ASP Ahmad Abang during Ops Bunga Api. — DayakDaily
