Habitual offenders nabbed for stealing cable by public

Both suspects were arrested by the police after they were apprehended by the public.

KUCHING, Nov 25: Two men were caught red-handed by the public stealing electricity cable near a supermarket at 4th Mile, Jalan Penrissen on Sunday night.

According to Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the police received a call regarding the incident at 11.45pm and a team was deployed to the location.

“The IPD Padawan operation centre received the call from the public informing about a burglary and cable theft at 4th Mile, along Jalan Penrissen.


“Upon arrival, the two suspects, aged 46 and 49, who were apprehended by the public earlier was arrested by the police,” he revealed in a statement today.

Aidil dislcosed that the police also seized five reels of electrical cords, a car, a ladder and a bunch of keys.

He noted that initial investigations found that the premises which they broke into was not occupied.

“The suspects gained entry into the premises by prying open its back door and the closed-circuit television (CCTV) managed to record their vehicle for two days straight on November 23 and 24, and they are suspected to be stealing the electric cable inside the premises.

“A check-up on the vehicle plate number found that the vehicle belonged to one of the suspects’ sister,” he added.

He also said the suspects admitted to breaking into the premises to steal the cable to sell as scrap.

Both suspects who had previous criminal records involving robbery, gambling and drug offences, were remanded for 7 days to help in the investigation. — DayakDaily
