Habitual offender slapped with 10 years’ jail, caning for gang robbery

KUCHING July 17: The Sessions Court today sentenced a habitual offender to another 10 years’ jail and one stroke of the cane for committing gang robbery.

Shahrizat Abul As, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Sessions Court judge Marutin Pagan.


He pleaded guilty to committing gang robbery with Mohd Abdul Razaaq Abdul Ramah, 29, on a 21-year-old girl at the main road of Pasir Pandak on November 15, 2018, at about 2.55 am.

According to the facts of the case, both the accused pretended to be policemen and offered to send the victim back to her house located in Kampung Semariang.

While they were on their way to Kampung Semariang, both the accused handcuffed the victim and asked her to hand over her belongings, including one smart phone, cash of RM45, ATM cards and her ATM cards’ passwords.

At the junction to Pasir Pandak, both the accused unlock the handcuff and left the victim there.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The other accused of this case, Mohd Abdul Razaaq pleaded not guilty to the charge. Shahrizat Abul As will become the witness of the prosecution to testify against Mohd Abdul Razaaqat the court on August 14.

On December 10, 2019, Shahrizat Abul As was sentenced to an imprisonment of 10 years and five strokes of the canes for robbery.
