KUCHING, Aug 1: Five teenage boys were arrested by the police for their suspected involvement in a gang robbery using sharp weapons at a premises on Jalan Tun Jugah here on June 1.
In a statement, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests were made between 12.15am and 3.00am on Friday (July 31) during an operation conducted at several locations across Kuching and Serian.
“The arrest of the suspects, aged between 14 and 18, also led to the seizure of several case exhibits, including a car believed to have been used during the robbery.
“Checks found that all five suspects have no previous criminal record. They have been remanded for five days to assist in further investigations,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for committing gang robbery using sharp weapons. If convicted, the offenders may face imprisonment of up to 20 years as well as whipping.
