SIBU, Nov 20: It will be three wins in a row for Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Oscar Ling as he looks certain to retain P212 Sibu in the 15th General Election (GE15).

As of 11.57pm last night, Ling has polled 28,970 votes against 19,205 votes for Clarence Ting (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) who collected 9,408 votes.

Ling who arrived at the counting centre at Sibu Islamic Complex accompanied by former Bukit Assek assemblywoman, Irene Chang thanked the voters for helping him to retain the seat.

“I want to thank our Sibu people for re-electing me to be their MP for the next five years,” said Ling.

He added that voter turnout this time was more than last election due to automatic voter registration.

Asked whether he had expected to retain the seat, Ling said he felt that he was about level with Ting and Wog initially “but luckily I managed to pull through due to the people’s power as they want a change in Malaysia.”

“We hope that after this, Pakatan Harapan can form the federal government so we can do more in this country to make sure Malaysia can move in the right direction,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ting came to the counting centre with Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief, Senator Robert Lau to congratulate him.

“I accept the result. I have heard Sibu people. It’s unfortunate I did not win but I conceded (defeat). I came here to congratulate our winner. I hope that from now on our ‘Ahli Parlimen’ will help to fight for Sibu,” said Ting. — DayakDaily
