KUCHING, Nov 19: As expected, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof defended P194 Petra Jaya for the fifth term with an increased majority of 27,981 in this 15th General Election (GE15).

Fadillah beat his two other contenders comfortably by garnering 41,363 votes, against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Sopian Julaihi who obtained 13,382 votes while Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak’s (Sedar) Dato Othman Abdillah only received 1,036 votes.

P194 Petra Jaya saw a significant increase in registered voters with a total of 109,809, as compared to 57,925 in 2018.

In the 2018 general election, Fadillah won the seat with 15,017 majority. He secured 28,306 votes against PH’s Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor (13,289) and PAS’ Hamdan Sani (1,350).

Petra Jaya has been the stronghold of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since the constituency was created in 1990.

Speaking to reporters after his victory was announced tonight, Fadillah who is caretaker Works Minister, acknowledged the great responsibility and high expectations that came with the huge mandate from the people, especially young voters.

“With that, I am going to conduct a post mortem on the election outcome. Throughout my engagement (in the campaigning period), there are many wishlists from each area. I will look into them and try to fulfill the needs, wishes and aspirations of all the people including senior citizens, women and youths.

“I will bring their voice to the Federal government later and ensure we can fulfill their wishes,” he pledged.

Fadillah thanked all the voters for their trust as well as all those involved including volunteers, the enforcement and party workers in ensuring the election was carried out smoothly and successfully. — DayakDaily
